There are two main types of Anti-Wrinkle Treatment – Type A (which is used in medicine) and Type B.
How does it work?
Botulinum Toxin A causes the neurotransmitters at muscular synapses to reduce expression of action potential, stops release of acetylcholine into the axonal endings, thereby stopping muscular contraction. WHAT!? If you want this Anti-Wrinkle Treatment, it is injected into facial muscles which it will temporarily paralyse, thereby giving a more relaxed appearance to the skin where it has been injected.
What should I do prior to coming for an Anti-Wrinkle Treatment?
- make sure you have all of your makeup removed; and
- ensure you have not had Anti-Wrinkle Treatment in the same area within the 12 weeks prior.
*Unfortunately, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding you are not eligible for this treatment.
What are we going to do?
We have a robust medical questionnaire which we need to fill out to ensure there are no reasons why you can’t avail of this and then we will go through the common to less common side effects of injecting Anti-Wrinkle Treatment.
What do we use?
The product we use is called Bocouture – an Anti-Wrinkle Treatment product manufactured by the world renowned Merz Aesthetics.
We use very small needles. This helps to not only reduce the risk of common side effects but is also more comfortable for you.
The following reactions may occur around the injection site; localised pain, inflammation (redness), bleeding, erythema (skin redness), decreased skin sensation, small amount of swelling (oedema), swelling (general), haematoma (bruising) and localised infection.

Bruxism (Teeth Grinding)

Crows Feet
These are the wrinkles at the sides of the eye that appear when we smile. By injecting anti-wrinkle toxin here, it greatly reduces the appearance of the wrinkles giving the impression of younger more youthful skin so you can feel confident when giving your biggest smile to the camera!
Dimpled/Pebbled Chin
We can treat the ‘dimpled chin’ look that often comes with age with Botulinum Toxin that prevents the muscle responsible for this causing the unsightly dimpled affect.
Down-Turned Mouths
Treatment of downturned mouths can be achieved with Botulinum Toxin to reduce the appearance of sadness that is apparent when the muscle is too active, causing the sides of the mouth to tug down.
Forehead Lines
Botulinum Toxin A is injected at multiple areas here to help soften the appearance of the lines that appear when we make expressions such as frowning and shock. This treatment works best alongside the treatment for crows feet and frown lines.
Frown Lines
Injection of Botulinum Toxin A into the muscle between the eyebrows works by paralysing the muscle responsible for causing frown lines.
Ptosis (eyelid drooping) is a potential complication of this treatment. This can happen if the toxin is placed too close to the muscle responsible for elevation of eyebrow. Eyebrow ptosis is also temporary and should go back to normal as the product wears off.
Gummy Smile
A ‘gummy smile’ is defined as a smile with excessive gingival show. We can reduce this with Botulinum Toxin A to prevent the top lip moving up higher than what the client deems as ‘aesthetically pleasing’ so that you, our clients have that photographic confidence that you deserve!
Hyperhidrosis (Excessive Sweating Underarm)
Excessive sweating is a very common complaint and one which can affect a person’s mental health, but it is something that can be treated. We inject Botulinum Toxin very superficially into the dermis/epidermis to prevent the excess secretions from your sweat glands. The procedure can take up to 45 minutes but you can return to normal activities immediately after. Book your consultation for more information.
Smoker’s Lines
Non-static smokers lines (wrinkles that are apparent when we purse our lips) can be treated by us with Botulinum Toxin and improvement will be apparent between 5-7 days but most effective 2 weeks following the procedure.
Turkey Neck
We use Botulinum Toxin A on the platysmal bands to reduce the appearance of the ‘turkey neck’ that often appears with age. These can also appear on a person with a large weight loss.
How long will the procedure last?
Depending on which area is being treated, procedures typically last anywhere between 15-45 mins. Contact us to find out more about the specific area you’re having treated and how long it takes.
You can return to normal activity immediately following treatment but are advised to refrain from extreme temperatures such as saunas and sunbeds for 48 hours as well as strenuous exercise.
When will I see results?
It can take 5-7 days before you start to see results for Anti-Wrinkle Treatments and up to 2 weeks before you see the full effect of the treatment.
For other treatments such as treatment of the wide-set jaw (common in persons of oriental descent) results will be evident in approximately 6 weeks.
How often should I get it done?
You cannot have the same treatment within 12 weeks of your previous treatment of Botulinum Toxin A.

Aftercare.
We advise refraining from sunbeds and strenuous exercise for at least 2 days after injections of Anti-Wrinkle Treatment to maximise results and reduce the risk of bruising.
We are always available for everyone who receives our treatments as with our medical backgrounds we understand the need for patient care but also for reassurance or advice you may need. We request that our clients return 2 weeks post treatment for a review.
Like most non-surgical procedures, the results are only temporary so your only job after is to come back to us and we will be happy to see you again.
